The difference we make

4 Nov

“The Wayside Community Centre “provides a range of activities to promote independence, encourage creativity, reduce exclusion and helps social and personal development. These include:

Keep fit sessions, including Chair exercise and Zumba

Visits to historic towns, country villages, seaside resorts, and stately homes

Handy Craft including knitting, sewing, drawing/painting,

Seminars/workshops on health promotion

A charity shop selling good quality items for all the family at reasonable prices.

With over twenty five years behind us I continue to marvel at what we have accomplished over the years with minimum resources. Today the organisation continues to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere to various members of our community. With the help of our recently appointed project manager our passion to work towards change in people’s lives remains high on the agenda.

Our project manager shares my passion and zeal. She has shown great enthusiasm and excitement to carry out her duties and has done wonders. Since her appointment we have seen a great increase in activities and attendances at the Centre. Our shop manager is equally enthusiastic towards change and together there is great potential for the organisation.

Feedback below shows the impact on the lives of individuals as follows:

“I’m feeling better about myself, joining the class has increased my self esteem”.

“I feel I have achieved something, when I draw and see how people admire my work I feel real pleased with myself. Thank you for the opportunity to come here”.

“I found it hard to reach up to my cupboard- now I can do so with freedom. I can also pin clothes on the line something I couldn’t do previously.”

“My shoulder was damaged through a bad fall –now my shoulder is more flexible I feel more upright”.

I had no strength in my knee after an operation- now I have regained strength.

“I had a stroke and lost confidence in walking. I feel more confident now”

“I can now get down the stairs without crawling on my bottom”.

“Without this shop we will have nothing to wear”.

These are just some of the reasons why “Wayside Community Centre exist. Simply to make an impact on people’s lives.
